I play board games with a group in which someone has this same tendency. It drives me up the wall as well. 

Another big pet peeve of mine is someone's cell phone going off during mass. It is usually at the worst possible time, during the gospel, the homily, or during the consecration. A priest in town, not at my parish, has a little hammer. If someone's cell phone goes off during mass, he will get his hammer, hold it up, and ask if the person needs some "help" turning it off.
